League expands concussion care with virtual, on-demand medical support

Vancouver, BC – The Pacific Junior Hockey League (PJHL) and HEADCHECK Health are proud to announce an expanded partnership aimed at advancing player safety across the league. Since 2021, the PJHL has utilized HEADCHECK’s digital platform to streamline concussion management and protocol compliance tracking. Now, the league is taking the next step by adopting HEADCHECK’s Enhanced Care Program, providing teams with virtual, on-call access to physicians (MDs) for expert concussion evaluation and clearance.

Commissioner Trevor Alto emphasized the league’s commitment to athlete well-being: “Player safety has always been a top priority for the PJHL. By integrating HEADCHECK’s Enhanced Care Program, we’re ensuring our athletes receive the highest standard of medical support, regardless of location or time constraints. This program addresses potential critical gaps in concussion care for sports leagues, offering peace of mind to players, parents, and teams.”

Leading the medical oversight for the PJHL is Dr. Tin Jasinovic, a primary care physician specializing in sport and exercise medicine. A UBC fellowship-trained expert with 12 published concussion research papers, Dr. Jasinovic brings a wealth of experience, including work with: Curling Canada’s 2021 tournament bubble, UBC and UBCO varsity athletics, and Arts Umbrella Professional Training Program.

“My goal is to ensure every athlete recovers safely and confidently,” said Dr. Jasinovic. “Through HEADCHECK’s platform, we combine cutting-edge research with personalized care, empowering players to return to the game only when medically ready.”

HEADCHECK Health CEO Harrison Brown praised the PJHL’s leadership: “The PJHL has been a forward-thinking partner since 2021, and their adoption of Enhanced Care reflects their dedication to athlete safety. Together, we’re setting a new standard for junior hockey, one where every player has equal access to expert care.”

The Enhanced Care Program will launch at the start of the 2024-25 PJHL season.
