Saskatoon Hilltops Take Forward-Thinking Approach to Concussion Safety

| By HEADCHECK HEALTH

CJFL team led the pack by adopting HeadCheck Health’s innovative concussion management software

SASKATOON – The Saskatoon Hilltops (‘Hilltops’) have shown themselves to be leaders on the field, as they look for a record fifth straight Canadian Bowl Championship, and off the field where they are the first Canadian Junior Football League (‘CJFL’) franchise to partner with HeadCheck Health, Inc. (‘HeadCheck’) and implement innovative concussion management software.

HeadCheck’s mobile and web-based solution was customized to the requirements of the CJFL’s concussion protocol and enabled the Hilltops to improve their level of concussion care. Team physiotherapists and trainers utilized the software to create a concussion health record for each player and opted to conduct baseline testing during team medicals.

During the season, the app helped team staff document suspected concussions, collect key information at the time of the event and perform post-injury testing enhanced by comparable data. The information collected could be shared through the system with team doctors to facilitate improved outcomes for the players.

“HeadCheck was great to have on the sidelines this season,” said Allison Frenette, Head Physiotherapist for the Hilltops. “It made testing easier and our baseline procedures far more efficient during medicals.”

“We’d like to congratulate the Hilltops on a successful season and showing great initiative in implementing HeadCheck this season,” said Harrison Brown, CEO of HeadCheck. “We see this as an important step in improving concussion safety across football in Canada.”
