CISG SCAT6® is a key part of concussion assessment, with testing features designed to improve the evaluation process.
While not a new feature, we want to remind you that it’s available as part of the HEADCHECK platform to enhance your concussion management practices.
SCAT6 Highlights:
- Immediate Memory uses a 10-word list for a more precise measurement of cognitive function.
- Observable Signs has added new questions to better assess the severity of the mechanism.
- Months in Reverse is now timed to provide a clear benchmark for recall performance.
- Dual-Task Gait combines motor and cognitive testing (heel-to-toe walk while counting backward), offering a more complete picture of neurological function.
In addition to SCAT6®, don’t forget that HEADCHECK also supports a range of other evidence-based testing tools:
- electronic Southwestern Assessment of Processing Speed (eSWAPS): A concussion tool that measures how quickly and accurately an athlete can match symbols to numbers based on a reference key. The test includes a 60-second timed task and a delayed recall section, with a practice round to ensure understanding before starting.
- PERRLA: A quick, non-invasive eye exam used by healthcare professionals to assess pupil response, movement, and focus as part of a broader symptom evaluation. It involves checking pupil shape and size, light reaction, and the ability to track and focus on objects at varying distances.
- The King-Devick test: Assesses rapid number naming to detect impairments in eye movement, attention, and cognitive processing.
- The Vestibular/Ocular Motor Screening (VOMS): A concussion assessment made up of five tests that evaluate eye movements, balance, and motion sensitivity. After each test, athletes rate symptoms like headache or dizziness on a scale from 0 to 10 to help identify potential issues.
As a reminder, these tools are available to help elevate your concussion assessments. If you’d like to enable any of the additional tests (eSWAPS, PERRLA, K-D, or VOMS) to be included with the SCAT, just reach out, and we’ll be happy to turn them on for you.
